Beyond: Two Souls First Look

Here's another awesome looking game that Sony showed off at E3 this year. I loved Heavy Rain from Quantic Dream, it was one of the reasons why I bought a PS3. The game company's next video game looks to be just as ambitious as a choose your own adventure neo noir story. Here's the synopsis from the PS3 website for Beyond: Two Souls:
From the makers of the award-winning Heavy Rain™ comes a unique, psychological action thriller. Featuring a brand-new game engine, a compelling, original story, and a top-notch Hollywood cast; BEYOND: Two Souls™ promises to be one of the most immersive experiences on the PlayStation®3.
Live the remarkable life of Jodie Holmes, a young woman who possesses supernatural powers through a psychic link to an invisible entity. Experience the most striking moments of Jodie’s life as your actions and decisions determine her fate. As she traverses the globe, Jodie will face incredible challenges against a backdrop of emotionally-charged events never before seen in a video game.

What really gets me excited for this game is the amount of work that looks to be going into the detail, graphics and story-wise.  I think what most excites me is Jodie, the heroine, is being played by film actress Ellen Page. Anyone who knows me knows I had a huge crush on Ellen Page post-Juno and I cannot wait to play this. Sony is definitely pushing the boundaries of what our current generation's gaming platforms are capable of doing. Uncharted 2 and 3 were incredibly detailed beautiful action movies that you controlled with a remote, and Naughty Dog is poised to use their skills as they move into the Survival-Horror genre with The Last of Us. This game gives me pause as to what the next generation will be able to do.

And if you haven't played Heavy Rain before, you should go out and play it...

Trailer Dump

A ton of movie trailers have been dropped in the past few weeks, including the first official looks at Django Unchained and a better look at Jeremy Renner stepping in to fill a Damon-sized void in The Bourne Legacy. Here I'm gonna run through a few of the most recent trailer that show some promise.

Looper

I'm definitely excited to see this. It's next movie from the creator of both Brick and The Brother's Bloom. I'm interested in seeing Joseph Gordon Levitt playing a young version of Bruce Willis.

The Man With the Iron Fists

This is the directorial debut of Wu Tang clan founder RZA. This send-up to the kung fu days of old comes from the man who provided the score to Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. Tarantino is releasing it and collaborator Eli Roth helped the RZA with his script. What really gets me pumped for this is Russell flippin Crowe is the villain.

Alex Cross

I'm glad to see Tyler Perry drop the padded drag Madea costume and step into the shoes of another character. He is filling some pretty big shoes as Alex Cross, a role that was played in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider by Morgan Freeman.

Total Recall

I never know what to expect with a remake/sequel/prequel but I'm fine with an Arnie movie getting redone with a new face. Total Recall looks amazing and I like the idea of Colin Farrell as an action star. He was great in Fright Night and In Bruges, but he looks to make his Quaid different than the former Governator. I'm sold by Bryan Cranston and Bill Nighy being involved as well.

Shut Up and Play the Hits

I never listened to LCD Soundsystem while they're together. But now that the band has broken up I found myself interested based purely on the strength of the trailer alone. Plus the quick appearance of Reggie Watts having one hell of a time had me sold too.

There are a lot of good movies coming soon especially this summer and fall. And I didn't even mention The Dark Knight Rises, Savages, or The Neighborhood Watch.
